on the tro-tro ride to cape coast

Fishermen bringing in their nets. The one in back goes to the front after a few pulls and they keep working that way and they sing a song as they bring it out.

Scratches from the nails of slaves being dragged from Cape Coast Castle to the slave ships.

Cape Coast and Cape Coast Castle. I'm going here again for my birthday.

  2. Thanks for all the gorgeous (and tragic) photos and stories. I am continually in awe of you and everything you are doing - as well as all those kids and their ability to survive.

I thought about you all day yesterday and the Thanksgiving people were having all across the US - eating turkey, watching football and (hopefully) feeling just a little bit thankful. I wish I could have sent you and all those kids some turkey.

More important, though, today is YOUR birthday. And I for one, want you to be selfish for one single day and just have a beautiful time yourself! Believe it or not, I've been reading about Ghana in travel magazines lately so I'm imagining you in some of the beautiful places today (rightly or wrongly) and surrounded by good people and hoping you have a fabulous time.

I love you, sweetie! Happy, happy birthday! I'm quite certain it will be one you never forget.
